Gardinia were commissioned by Mr & Mrs Kern from Huddersfield to complete a project that would allow them to have modern encapsulated stained UPVC windows fitted, however retain the existing stained units fitted in their home almost 100 years ago in 1916. These existing units were now tired, marked with some cracks from wear & tear and starting to let in water ingress.
Mr & Mrs Kern choose to use the Gardinia encapsulated stained units option which incorporates the following process:
- Our specialist glass expert attends site and carefully removes the existing stains
- He then temporary glazes the apertures with single plate clear glass to maintain a weather seal and security, Mr Kern commented “I am a qualified and time served Joiner and I was amazed how neatly and efficiently he removed the units without damage to the rest of the windows and furnishings”
- Our specialist then takes the units to his studios and replaces any badly damaged coloured glass units from his extensive stocks of original coloured glass
- He then puts the glass units through an extensive glass polishing process which removes any ingrained marks, dirt and blemishes
- Our glass specialist also repairs and re-solders any lead joints to ensure they are maintained, firm and secure
- The glass is now restored to the existing vibrant colours and finish as when fitted in 1916
- Lastly, the new stained glass is trapped inside a brand new double glazed unit making it “triple glazed”. This means that the new stained glass will not weather, become marked, or dirty as it is no longer open to the elements.
- Our fitters then attended the site with the new Gardinia Windows and Doors, carefully removing the old frames and fitting the new
- The new glass is fitted and the finish and effect is quite stunning, as can been seen below
Below we have some before and after photos, the end result is stunning i’m sure you will agree! You would never know the glass inside the encapsulated stained UPVC windows was near enough 100 years old. Mr & Mrs Kern are delighted with the end result, as is everyone here at Gardinia.
